Schumacher for creating this masterpiece. Obviously, I don’t expect you all to love it as much as I do, but if you somehow trust me and appreciate my recommendations, give it a try. It’s romantic, mysterious, exciting, thrilling, moving and everything that I would expect from this story. I could watch this production every weekend and still love it. I know that a lot of critics have hated the film adaptation, but I honestly don’t understand why. Even though I’m not an opera singer, I love listening to the soundtrack and trying to sing together with them (you wouldn’t want to hear it, trust me). I remember it was the first time I saw Butler and Rossum on the screen and I’ve loved them ever since.

Gerard Butler as the Phantom and Emmy Rossum as Christine are fantastic in their roles and it would be impossible for me to accept any other actors instead. And comparing to both the book and the play, I was amazed by the film the most. The funny thing is that I watched the film first, then saw the musical in the theatre (it wasn’t the original “Phantom” and, to be honest, the version presented in my country was quite average…) and then I read the book. It’s a wonderful story about two souls in love, which is sort of unexpected and dangerous. And later, based on this musical, Joel Schumacher directed today’s film. “The Phantom of the Opera” is actually a book written by Gaston Leroux (marvellous, by the way, feel encouraged to read it), which inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber to make a musical based on it. That is why I’d like to recommend you his masterpiece today, so you can say goodbye properly. Not only because he directed one of the best musicals I’ve seen in my life, but also because he really was an incredibly talented person. Schumacher passed away and I have to tell you… it hurt me deeply.

Obviously, it was a horrible challenge for me, because it’s really difficult for a person like me to choose only 10 films… There are way too many wonderful productions.
